XP & scoring guide
Every way XP changes in TOPIK Prep. Numbers come straight from the code — if the rules change, this page changes with them.
How you earn XP
Correct drill answer
L1 = 7 · L2 = 9 · L3 = 11 · L4 = 13 · L5 = 15 · L6 = 17
Wrong drill answer
A small consolation so you still make progress when you guess wrong.
Writing submission scored
A 60/100 essay = +80 XP · a 90/100 essay = +95 XP
How you lose XP
Revealing a translation
Charged once per item per question (prompt or each card). Toggling the same translation off and back on is free. Moving to the next question resets the meter.
XP can never drop below 0.
Streaks
Daily streak
Any drill attempt on a new calendar day extends the streak. Miss a full day and it resets to 1 on your next attempt.
How mastery is calculated
Each competency (e.g. L3 · grammar) has its own mastery score from 0–100.
Score = accuracy × confidence, where:
- Accuracy = percent correct on your last 20 attempts in that competency.
- Confidence ramps from 0 → 1 over your first 8 attempts. New competencies look low until you build a sample.
Writing mastery blends the average rubric score of your submissions at that level, with confidence ramping over 3 submissions.
TOPIK I readiness averages L1 + L2 mastery. TOPIK II readiness is weighted: L3 0.35 · L4 0.30 · L5 0.20 · L6 0.15.
A note on integrity
XP and mastery only reflect real effort if you avoid revealing translations before answering. The penalty exists so glancing at English has a real cost — small, but enough to keep your numbers honest.
